Highlighted on the Trade Show floor every year, are a variety of live demonstrations and exciting competitions that make up the Hospitality Games.  These games consist of the following: bartending competition, bell cart wheelie relay, mantenance assembly and relay, banquet competition and a bed making competition.  The winners of each competition earn bragging rights in their trade, helping bartenders and hotel staff build their reputations as top talent.

Hospitality Games:

Banquet Competition-open to restaurants, hotels and catering companies

  • AHA provides a 6' round, un-skirted table in booth numbers 1408-1412 on the Trade Show floor.  Teams should decorate the table for any type of break or table setting. Judging is based on presentation and creativity.
  • The theme this year is "Arkansas: A Hidden Treasure".  Teams must use this theme in creating their table decorations.  The Hospitality Games Committee requires that the set-up remain on the Trade Show floor until 3p.m. on Thursday, September 23rd.  The winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet at the Peabody Hotel on Wednesday, September 22nd.

Maintenance Assembly & Relay-open to maintenance department employees

  • One team per hospitality facility; teams consist of three employees
  • Teams should bring designated tools set out by Hospitality Games Committee (see the brochure)
  • Teams will assemble a little red wagon and will be scored on the fastest time completed.  Points are deducted for any parts not used.  Teams will then participate in a relay, pulling the little red wagon through an obstacle course.  Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams based on best score.

Bell Cart Wheelie Relay-open to all hotel and motel bellmen employees

  • One team per hospitality facility
  • Teams must consist of 3 employees
  • Teams will be in a relay by loading a bellman's cart and pulling it through an obstacle course, taking the items off the cart, and reloading two more times with the other 2 members of the team.
  • Points will be deducted for each item that falls off the cart.
  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams with the best scores.

Bartending Competition-open to all food and beverage department employees

  • Limit of one bartender per hospitality facility
  • *NO FLAIRTENDING INVOLVED
  • AHA provides the alcohol and set-up-glasses and electrical
  • Bartenders will need to provide any decorative napkins, picks, shakers, pourers and a blender
  • Bartenders are scored individually on a point system by 5 judges according to speed, accuracy and presentation.
  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place individuals with the best scores.  Prizes are complimentary of Glazer's Distributors of Arkansas.
  • Bartenders will also participate in a specialty drink using their glassware, etc. and will provide the recipe to the Hospitality Games Committee.  The quantity of specialty drink should be for 5 judges. *All judging will be by taste test with drinking straws provided by AHA.

Bedmaking Competition-open to all hotel and motel housekeeping employees

  • The AHA will provide a Queen-size mattress in the area for the competition
  • Each participating hotel will provide:
    • 1 Comforter-Queen
    • 1 Blanket-Queen
    • 2 Flat Sheets-Queen
    • 2 Pillows
    • 2 Pillowcases
  • Housekeepers will be timed on how quickly they can make the bed and extra points for "tightness" and "tidiness" also counts
  • The bed linens, pillows, and pillowcases will be folded and placed on top of the mattress
  • When the housekeeper is ready, the timer will begin and he or shee will begin making the bed
